Course Objectives:
“The English language is nobody’s special property. It is the property of the imagination: it is the property of the language.”
English for Specific Purposes (ESP) is an approach to language teaching that focuses on developing language skills in a specific context related to a learner’s field or area of interest. The approach is based on the principle of needs analysis, which involves identifying the specific language and communication needs of learners in their professional or academic contexts.
At the end of this course, participants are expected to:
- Know and recognize different concepts related to ESP.
- Distinguish between the teaching of ESP and the teaching of General English.
- Recognize the importance of implementing Needs Analysis in ESP.
- Design an ESP course.
- Distinguish between the different skills used in the teaching of ESP.
